Multitasking is scary!

Halloween is just around the corner. Don't let the tendency to multitask make your zombie costume 'too real!

Research shows that while we think it's more productive, multitasking can lower our brain's ability to shut out distractions. Even when not multitasking, our brains work less efficiently than before.

So what do we do?

Try to focus on one thing at a time. Give yourself a timer for tricky work, and little rewards to keep yourself motivated.

Example: I will spend 30 minutes answering customer concern emails then do 5 squats to get up and moving or if you need a sweeter reward, get up and move to the office candy jar.

Fight "Weekend Brain"

Still dreaming about your comfy bed? We feel ya’.  A quick way to get your brain back into gear is to write yourself a reminder on Friday before you leave.

We know a lot can happen over the weekend - whether it’s Netflix and chill, or heading out on the town – it’s easy to forget small tasks from the previous week.

So try this, before you leave Friday, make a list of any undone tasks and at the top of that list add some kind words to yourself. Something like… “Happy Monday Ann, you’re looking good!”

Got a good one?  Send us a picture and we’ll share it on our @wardcertified Insta’ page.

Set goals and crush 'em

When you create small goals all week, you’ll never get bored, always be challenged, and feel like a rock star when you cross items off your list.

This week, be a team player and create a goal that helps the whole team.

  • Ask one team member, “how I can help this week?”
  • Send an email thanking a team member for their help this week.

Which one did you try?  Let us know at ann@wardcertified.com.

To-Dos to get To-Done!

Day-in and day-out, any job can begin to feel monotonous. Feel more productive by setting small goals each week.

This week, create goals that help you develop personally and professionally.

  • Drink 8 glass of water every day this week
  • Cross-train with Linda to learn the new project management system

Give yourself a high-five, you’ve got this!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Recently handle a difficult customer situation? How did it go?

We get pumped when we handle it well and irritated when we couldn't turn them around. In both cases, we're anxious to tell someone about it.

  • If it was good - Bask in your super skills and share your story so that a colleague can acknowledge, throw flowers at your feet and perhaps learn a trick or technique.

  • If it was bad - Share your experience with the team and see if you can problem solve as a team.

  • If it was ugly - take a moment and let it out. Maybe a quick walk around the building, pop a few squats, squeeze a stress ball, or even vent to a colleague.

Venting is like the whistle on a kettle. It's designed to let you know a boiling point has been reached and it's time to let off steam. It doesn't make other kettles boil and it doesn't whistle for long, in fact, it stops when it is taken off the burner.

So be like a kettle, whistle, and vent when you need too, but then make a cup of tea and find a positive, productive way to cool down.
